CASA is a trusted non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally safe wrap-around mental health services to children and their families in Alberta. We do this through a team of specialized mental health professionals who are trauma experts committed to delivering outcomes-based programming in collaboration with community partners. CASA’s vision is a community where all children, youth and their families are provided timely mental health care and empowered to thrive.

CASA is currently looking for a nurse to join our triage and transition team. Reporting to the clinical manager, the registered nurse will work within a multi-disciplinary team responsible for triaging referrals to CASA programs and services. They will collaborate with external partners to ensure timely and appropriate mental health service delivery. This includes participation in triage and intake assessment, case conferences, maintaining electronic medical records, providing ongoing mental health treatment support to patients and families, and transition planning and resourcing. Critical thinking and accurate interpretation of complex mental health information are essential to the clinical decision-making required for this position.

Job Description

Reporting to the clinical manager and working under the supervision of the clinical lead, the nurse works collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to provide services such as nursing assessments and plans of care, medication administration, teaching, telephone follow-up and health promotion. The nurse may also assist with therapy. The nurse practices according to the code of ethics and practice standards of their specific nursing college. The nurse:

  • Completes appropriate nursing assessments (physical and psychosocial) to identify mental health concerns and current risk.

  • Integrates assessment and other data to establish appropriate long and short-term goals and provide nursing interventions to promote, maintain and restore health.

  • Monitors, evaluates and modifies nursing care plans based on effectiveness of interventions and/or changes in condition or environment, in collaboration with the patient and care team.

  • Provides information and instruction to assist in understanding the clinical condition, ongoing care and management.

Days Off: Saturday/Sunday


  • Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse. BScN preferred.

  • A minimum of three to five years of recent pediatric experience in an ambulatory care setting which has included the care and management of children with mental health problems. Acute care experience in children’s mental health would be an asset.

  • Must be a member in good standing with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta.

  • Knowledge of the health information and Protection of Privacy Information Acts in addition to professional organization’s ethics and standards of practice.

  • Respect and understanding of confidentiality and ability to maintain confidentiality regarding personal and sensitive information.

  • Familiarity with electronic medical records or similar information systems.

  • Knowledge of family therapy and group therapy would be an asset.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new or unexpected situations, flexibility in approach to interpersonal situations.
