About CASA

CASA is a major non-profit community-based provider of mental health services for children, adolescents and their families within greater Edmonton and from Central and Northern Alberta. Since 1988, CASA has provided assessment and treatment services for up to 4,000 children and adolescents each year, from ages three to 18, through a continuum ranging from consultation in community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

 

CASA has an exciting opportunity for a part-time contracted music therapist! In this position you will be able to work with our multi-disciplinary team and develop programs for our patients.

 

Job Purpose

The Music Therapist is a contract position for up to 8 hours per week at CASA House. The contracted position is responsible for the planning and implementation of a continuous program of music therapy activities in partnership with the clinical programs at CASA. The music therapy program is designed to meet the physical, mental, psychological and spiritual needs and interests of each patient.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development, administration and coordination of music therapy activities and programs.

  • Implement music therapy activities that facilitate non-musical goals such as sensory stimulation, memory recall, positive failure, free experiences and socialization.

  • Participate in determining therapeutic objectives and goals, provides input in regarding to music therapy.

  • Coordinate, organize and implement music therapy program in accordance with the clinical programs.

  • Plan and perform group and one to one activities meeting the needs of each patient and encourages participation.

  • Ensure each patient’s physical, social, intellectual, spiritual and sensory emotional needs are met through independent activities or group in accordance with regulations.

  • Develop and maintain accurate records to support clinical programming.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of musical instruments, purchasing instruments and general maintenance.

  • Provide general guidance to volunteers.
     

Qualifications

  • Must be a Certified Music Therapist (MTA).

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a social or recreation program preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize a wide variety of musical instruments.

  • Able to identify new methods to incorporate music therapy into activities for patients.

  • Ability to assume leadership in a group.

  • Must have patience, tact, friendly disposition, enthusiasm and developed communication skills.

  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.

  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically and professionally at all times.

  • Demonstrated understanding of patient safety procedures.

  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with clinical programs and our patients.

  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
