A Message from the CEO of CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health

To our valued patients, families, community members, and partners,

As you are aware, we find ourselves in unprecedented times. I wanted to update you on CASA’s response to COVID-19. As you can imagine, we are actively dealing with the many implications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please be rest assured that the health and safety of staff, physicians, patients and their families is our top priority at CASA.

Last week, CASA convened a COVID-19 Emergency Response Team, which meets daily for the foreseeable future to ensure we are acting in the best interest of staff, physicians, patients and their families, and the larger community. Regular communications are issued from this team  to all staff and physicians. We have ongoing communications with our families as well as Edmonton Public School Board.

Keeping you in the loop of the changing environment, effective Monday, March 15, 2020, Edmonton Public Schools began an indefinite cancellation of classes in the Division and in school jurisdictions across the province as a measure to limit the community spread of COVID-19 in Alberta. CASA has implemented the same actions. We have closed our three day programs and will be reassessed as the environment changes. CASA House remains open and is taking all appropriate precautionary measures. Program staff will be in regular phone contact with families enrolled in these programs; in-person support will be available as needed. The Parent-in-Residence program is also offering telephone support to parents as well. We will continue our on-call processes.

All clinic-based services will be moving to phone-based rather than in person appointments, where possible, in order to increase social distancing. Group treatment is currently on hold. All Program Managers are currently working with their staff to identify any high risk families who will need in person support, including the logistics of how this can be safely facilitated.

We have requested staff and physicians, as per Alberta Health and AHS, to monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19. If anyone exhibits any symptoms, we would like them to stay home and self-isolate for 14 days. If staff or physicians come to work sick, we will send them  home immediately. We will continue to take direction from the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services, and do everything we can to responsibly prevent the spread of this virus. Our concern is our children and their families in CASA programs and we will do our best to ensure they have the resources and supports they require in this uncertain time.

At this time, we are also exploring short and long term options with respect to how we can support business and service continuity at CASA.

I will continue to update you as we work through this quickly-evolving situation. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at 780-400-4511.

Thanks, Denise
