Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager, Health Information and Privacy is responsible for the areas of Privacy, Health Records, Electronic Medical Records and patient intake services. 

  • Respond to staff inquiries and general issues and requests for access to or correction of personal and/or health information;

  • Develop and implement privacy policies and procedures

  • Develop and create health information and protection of privacy training & educational materials for staff and affiliates as requested by programs

  • Supervise, coach and mentor a team of staff

  • Chair Data Governance Committee

  • Counsel, develop & create privacy impact assessments

  • Respond and/or attend court orders, applications and subpoenas

  • Develop and create Information Sharing Agreements

  • Consult with staff & patients regarding custody and access concerns (ie PGOs, Court orders, EPOs, etc.)

  • Develop and create appropriate privacy and confidentiality documents including  consent forms, authorization forms, and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements;

  • Ensure compliance with privacy legislation, security and confidentiality

  • Leads the investigation, intake, remediation and triage of privacy breaches and complaints from patients, their legal guardians, parents or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC);

  • Work with the offices of provincial (e.g. Alberta Health Services, Office of the Information and Privacy Commission) during the investigation of any privacy complaints against the organization;

  • Respond to requests for information under the Health Information Act;

  • Monitor systems development and operations for security and privacy compliance;

  • Audit physical, administrative and technical security of personal and/or health information

  • Provide counsel relating to business contracts and partnerships;

  • Establish and administer a process for receiving, documenting, and tracking all complaints concerning personal and/or health information

  • Support the quality and confidentiality of all health records

  • Contribute as member of the Quality & Risk Management Council

  • Maintain awareness of correct health record format, data standards, and file medical documentation accordingly i.e. reports, notes, prescriptions, correspondence

  • Oversees health record forms utilized within CASA

  • Provide reports for management on audit findings

  • Oversees the administration of the EMR system

  • Contributes as a member of the EMR Governance Committee


  • Minimum 2 years supervision experience required

  • University undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. business, public or health administration, library sciences or information management)

  • PACC Professional certification, Health Information Management Certification or certification with the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/C) or an equivalent credential

  • Demonstrated experience conducting and completing privacy impact assessments (PIAs)

  • Strong commitment to ethical and legal standards;

  • In depth knowledge of relevant privacy laws, regulations and standards

  • Knowledge of information systems with some technology background


$81,600 - $103,368, depending on education and experience
