About CASA

CASA is a major non-profit community-based provider of mental health services for children, adolescents and their families within greater Edmonton and from Central and Northern Alberta. Since 1988, CASA has provided assessment and treatment services for up to 4,000 children and adolescents from ages three to 18 each year through a continuum ranging from consultation in community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

We are currently looking for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our family at CASA House. CASA House is an intensive residential treatment program that treats adolescents with complex mental health problems using a multidisciplinary team approach with an emphasis on family involvement.

 

Job Purpose   

Licensed Practical Nurses work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team members to ensure success in the areas of clinical service delivery to emotionally and behaviourally disturbed adolescents and their families. They provide behaviour management, guidance, support, supervision and case management to the adolescents in this program. In the floater position, you will see different shifts to accommodate different business needs and may be working day or night shifts.  


Job Duties

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse provides nursing assessments and medical activities including:

    • Assesses adolescents for physical needs, disease process, and learning needs.

    • Provides and reinforces teaching using available educational materials.

    • Identifies and initiates interventions within the Licensed Practical Nurse’s legislated scope of practice.

    • Monitors changes in health status using critical thinking skills.

  • Participates in case management of assigned adolescents and their families.

  • Implements and monitoring treatment plans.

  • Maintains and updating clinical records.

  • Complete chart audits

  • Medication administration

  • Supervises and organizing daily living activities.

  • Participates in program meetings.

  • Prepares transfer/discharge summaries for assigned caseload per program standards.

 

Requirements

  • Diploma in nursing

  • Registration with CLPNA must be in good standing.

  • Possess previous experience working in children’s mental health. 

  • Be fluent in case management and supportive counselling for adolescents and their families.

  • Be clinically effective in rapport building with adolescents and their families.

  • Be experienced in working within a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Have a positive and energetic demeanor.

  • Have a flexible schedule to accommodate different shifts required in the LPN, floater position. 

  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
