About CASA

CASA is a major non-profit community-based provider of mental health services for children, adolescents and their families within greater Edmonton and from Central and Northern Alberta. Since 1988 CASA has provided assessment and treatment services for up to 4,000 children and adolescents ages three to 18 each year through a continuum ranging from consultation in community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

 

Job Purpose

The kitchen assistant performs a variety of duties. They assist the cook with:

  • Food preparation

  • Portioning

  • Serving

  • Operating commercial kitchen equipment

  • Using safe food handling procedures for the patients and staff at CASA House

 

This position is pivotal in ensuring dietary needs are met.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves meals according to the menu and individualized nutritional plan

  • Ensures CASA House food services continually comply with the Public Health Act – Food Regulation standards and meets with the Public Health Inspector

  • Ensures equipment is in working order and inventory levels are sufficient (i.e. aprons, gloves, hair nets, etc.)

  • Provides meal preparation life skills teaching to patients as part of their individualized treatment plan

  • Executes other tasks and responsibilities as required

 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and use of commercial food equipment

  • Grade 12 diploma

  • Ability to work Monday – Thursday between 1:00pm and 4:00pm, with the possibility of more hours required for vacation coverage

  • Food Safety Certification an asset

  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team

  • Good organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with an adolescent population
