About CASA

CASA is a major non-profit community-based provider of mental health services for children, adolescents and their families within greater Edmonton and from Central and Northern Alberta. Since 1988 CASA has provided assessment and treatment services for up to 4,000 children and adolescents ages three to 18 each year through a continuum ranging from consultation in community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

 

Job Purpose

Reporting to the program manager, the dietician provides nutrition expertise to the adolescents at CASA House and their families, and to other programs when necessary. Key responsibilities include menu planning, nutritional assessment, care and follow-up, nutritional teaching and consultation to promote healthy living and disease prevention.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Evaluate on-going menu planning and serving size for nutritional adequacy, and to recommend and implement changes as required.

  • Review food costs with the cook and director and make adjustments as necessary

  • Provide and document nutritional assessment, care and follow-up for the adolescents of CASA House on program and individual basis.

  • To use standardized tools to determine body mass index and what is abnormal weight gain or loss for each adolescent.

  • Nutritional teaching to adolescents and parents.

  • To provide nutritional consultation as required by CASA House and other CASA programs when deemed necessary

  • To determine which nutritional indicators CASA House will use as guidelines, and maintain the program of quality improvement for food services.

  • To comply with the requirements of the College of Dietitians, Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, CASA organizational policies and procedures, and other relevant

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science degree in food and nutrition science

  • Registered Dietitian, membership in good standing with the College of Registered Dietitians of Alberta and Dieticians of Canada.
