CASA is a trusted non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally safe wrap-around mental health services to children (3-18) and their families in Alberta. We do this through a team of specialized mental health professionals who are trauma experts committed to delivering outcomes-based programming in collaboration with community partners. CASA’s vision is a community where all children, youth and their families are provided timely mental health care and empowered to thrive.

The clinical support worker is a person who is compassionate and likes to work directly with families in the community. They have a positive attitude and is committed to life-long learning, spending time with elders and other knowledge keepers. In this role, they will help Indigenous families navigate CASA programs and services, connecting them to available resources.

Job Description

To provide a high quality and accessible mental health programming to children, youth and families primarily residing on the Alexander, Enoch Cree, Paul and Alexis Sioux Nakoda Nations. Reporting to the clinical manager, the clinical support worker works closely with assigned program area mental health therapists (MHTs) to support screening, case management, delivery of treatment and achievement of treatment plans. They play an integral role within the therapy team to provide treatment extension and promote the uptake and application of skills within family and school settings. The clinical support worker also facilitates child, adolescent and parent treatment groups under the supervision of the MHTs. Duties include:

Engages in facility, school and/or home observations and prepares observation reports for MHTs.
Provides hands on modelling and coaching to family members as determined by the MHT and guided by the treatment plan.
Completes weekly phone contacts with families as assigned to review treatment strategies and gather updates for the treatment team.
Conduct phone calls on behalf of clinicians (i.e. to schools, parents) to gather information or explain strategies to assist the patient to be successful in school and at home.
Assist in group facilitation, set up and take down, observation and note taking as required in groups for patients and families.

Qualifications

Diploma or degree in social work; child and youth care; early childhood education or a related discipline such as psychology, social sciences, etc.
Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration.
Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
Practical experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting
Strong knowledge and skills in behavior management techniques.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work autonomously, independently and to prioritize work activities.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to new or unexpected situations, flexibility in approach to interpersonal situations.
