About CASA

CASA is a major non-profit community-based provider of mental health services for children, adolescents and their families within greater Edmonton and from Central and Northern Alberta. Since 1988 CASA has provided assessment and treatment services for up to 4,000 children and adolescents ages three 18 each year through a continuum ranging from consultation in community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the director, communications, the communications specialist is a key member of the communications portfolio, responsible for creating, maintaining and promoting accurate, consistent, and professional communication to represent CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health to internal and external audiences. The communications specialist develops and implements communication strategies and related products on behalf of the organization, based on research, analysis, communication planning and evaluation. The overarching purpose of the role is to raise awareness about CASA’s services and children’s mental health, support the delivery of quality care to patients and families, enhance the reputation of CASA with its many audiences, and complement fund development activities through communication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a webmaster for CASA’s external website, by receiving email communication to the webmaster email, responding to requests and inquiries and regularly updating and auditing pages, menus, navigation and presentation.

  • Participate in the development and measurement of social media posts based on pre-determined content pillars, and work with external vendors as needed to implement a social media strategy as part of CASA’s communication and fund development efforts.

  • Assist with public messaging and media materials, including media releases, public statements and key messages.

  • Maintain CASA’s intranet site, by posting news items, updating pages and ensuring a consistent look, feel and approach to intranet content and guidance.

  • Support internal communication by using appropriate channels to share timely information with staff, communicate organizational values and strategies, promote news and events, and celebrate employee recognition.

  • Provide communications-related support to CASA programs as needed.

  • Inform and implement regular updates to publications and promotional materials, such as the CASA Family Handbook, the CASA House guidebook, and CASA program postcards.

  • Create and maintain template material, such as CASA’s letterhead, PowerPoint templates, poster templates, forms and the CASA email signature template, as well as any policies, guidelines and standards related to these products.

  • Create communications materials as needed and as determined by communications strategies, including briefing notes, brochures, posters, PowerPoint presentations, and reports.

 

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in a relevant subject area, such as communications, journalism, marketing or public relations. Diploma in relevant subject may be supplemented with equivalent experience working in a similar role.

  • A minimum of three years’ experience in the areas of communications, marketing, or public relations.

  • Experience managing corporate social media accounts is an asset.

  • Experience with Google Analytics and AdWords is an asset.

  • Experience working in the field of healthcare, or experience in an organization of more than 150 employees, is an asset.

  • Membership or certification from a recognized professional association such as IABC or CPRS is an asset.

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong computer and technological skills.

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong professional relationships.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign or equivalent design program is an asset.
