 Education & Training
  • CASA therapists contributed to family studies course material for the University of Calgary
Faculty of Social Work, Edmonton Campus.
  • The Family Seminar Series continued provincially through telehealth. Thanks to a continued
partnership with the Alberta Mental Health Board, therapists based in five communities in
northern and central Alberta were able to participate in a video conference version of this
professional development series on family therapy. The registration increased this second
year from 21 to 30 participants.
  • Two CASA psychiatrists and a psychologist contributed video presentations to the Alberta
Children’s Services provincial professional development series.
  • The Infant Mental Health Journal Club continued to stimulate and educate clinicians who
gathered once a month to share the most recent literature and research related to infant
    mental health.
  • A broad range of presentations on a variety of topics pertaining to children’s mental health
were provided by CASA staff and physicians to a number of community groups.
  • Therapists from CASA’s preschool team provided a series of workshops on maternal
depression in centres across the province.
  • While on her fellowship with the Muttart Foundation, CASA’s Executive Director, Germaine
Dechant, finished her book, Winter’s Children. Germaine takes you through 100 developmental
years of children’s mental health services in Alberta. The book provides a comprehensive look
at the triumphs and tragedies, enlightened approaches as well as lack of commitment to action
that have shaped the field of children’s mental health to this day.
